Why Eat Organic?

Our health is directly related to our daily intake of food.  Have you ever felt bloated or sluggish after a
large meal, only wanting to lie down and rest (or digest) quietly?  This feeling is most undoubtedly
related to the type and amounts of foods you consume at mealtime.  One way to combat this fatigue is to
eat smaller portions, thus giving your body less to digest.  Another way is to eat healthier foods.

Many people have found that eating natural, unprocessed, Organic foods have helped them feel
better.   The foods often taste better, not having been washed or processed in chemicals.  Organic
foods have been found to contain higher levels of Vitamin C and essential minerals such as Calcium,
Magnesium, Iron, Chromium and cancer fighting antioxidants.  Organic Milk for example, is higher in
essential Omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamin A and Vitamin E, than non-Organic milk.

Let’s look at why this is so.  Organic farmers follow strict guidelines to ensure a pure product.  Food
safety is considered throughout the growing cycle.  The environment the food is grown in is maintained
in a natural way.  There are no genetically modified seeds used.  Crop rotation and planting diverse
crops together add nutrients to the soil that other crops may deplete.  Chemicals and pesticides are not
accepted or used on an organic farm.  In relation to the foods grown on an organic farm are the animals
that feed off of the organic grains grown.  Grass-fed Beef and Hogs graze on strictly organic fields.
These animals are treated humanely, not given steroids or growth hormones, and culled from the herd if
an illness develops.  They are then treated with natural methods, avoiding antibiotics.  Many of these
drugs commonly used in herds are linked to bacterial resistance to the same or closely related
antibiotics in humans.

An added benefit you may not even think of is the health and safety of the farmers working the fields.
Using pesticides or chemicals is risky business for the farmer.  An organic farmer does not have to
worry about handling dangerous waste product removal.  The “fertilizer” from these healthy animals
feed the plants.  It’s all organic and completes the cycle.

So, that’s just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak.  You can learn more about Organic food health at

yourself!
